The MSBA has multiple vehicles to share substantive articles related to the practice of law, including the eWeekly Newsletter and Bar Journal. Below is a little more detail on the requirements for each:

• eWeekly Newsletter: “Blog” style writing. Typically 150-300 words, no citations. Topics are generally related to current events that appeal to a broad spectrum of legal professionals, including recent judicial decisions/verdicts, recent changes to statues, regulations, rules, or procedure, emerging legal technologies, and recent section/committee events/award recipients, etc. The eWeekly is published weekly primarily on Mondays (during certain holiday weeks the eWeekly may by published on Tuesday or not published at all).
• Bar Journal: Professional, legal writing. Typically 500 – 1500 words with endnote citations. Proposals on a variety of topics will be reviewed and considered, including articles related to changes to the practice of law, attorney marketing, professional development, attorney wellness, access to justice, notable court decisions, and book reviews. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, and the Bar Journal is printed every 3-4 months.The Editorial Advisory Board has selected the following themes and deadlines for upcoming issues of the Bar Journal:

  • Vol. 6, Issue 1: Torts
    Content deadline: May 15, 2024 Publication: July 2024

A note about editing: The MSBA employs a light editing policy, and strives to ensure that the content and voice of submissions are that of the authors. Editing is primarily focused on identifying and correcting typos and minor grammatical issues. To the extent that substantial editing is required, the author will be provided with a redlined copy of the suggested edits for review. The author may, at that time, accept the suggested edits, submit a revised article, or withdraw the submission.

The MSBA accepts proposals for Whitepapers/Tools & Resources/Books aimed at providing practical substantive content in discrete practice areas or for discrete sectors of the profession (i.e. litigators, transactional attorneys, in-house/corporate counsel). Proposals are accepted on a year-round and rolling basis across all practice areas and sectors of the legal profession. Examples of Tools & Resources include, but are not limited to: templates, checklists, samples, and tip sheets.

The MSBA accepts proposals for Educational Programs/CLE on a year-round, rolling basis. Educational Programs/CLE may be presented via live webcast, in-person, or via pre-recorded webinar. All proposed Educational Programs/CLE must be accompanied by written materials, which includes, but is not limited to, powerpoints, substantive handouts, and course outlines, and must be at least 1 hour in length and should not exceed 8 hours. Educational Programs/CLE may be selected as a stand alone program or as part of a larger CLE Institute, Conference or Event such as the MSBA Solo & Small Firm Summit or Legal Summit & Annual Meeting.
