More than 500 legal and civic luminaries turned out to Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD, on November 1, 2018, for the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association‘s 34th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet.

The theme for this year’s banquet – the Bourne Bar’s premier annual event – was “Yield Not Toward the Path of Justice”.

Keynote speaker Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby joined a host of prominent lawyers, judges, bar and civic leaders that included United States Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, Congressman Steny Hoyer, Maryland Delegate Erek Barron, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association President Judge Holly D. Reed, III, MSBA and President Judge Keith R. Truffer, among many others.

The Bourne Bar’s 2018 scholarship recipients included:

Other honorees included:

  • Vernon H. Ricks, Jr., Montgomery County Community Service Award
  • Bruce D. Edwards, Esq., Prince George’s County Community Service Award
  • Rushern L. Baker, III, Prince George’s County Executive, Wayne K. Curry Award

Established in 1977, the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association works to advance the status of African American lawyers in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties.
