Join the MSBA Real Property Section for the virtual presentation of the Land Use Institute on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, beginning at 9 a.m.! 

The program will feature keynote speaker Patricia E. Salkin, Esq., a nationally recognized expert on land use law and zoning and author of the popular “Law of the Land” blog.  She has authored numerous books on land use, including:

  • New York Zoning Law & Practice, 4th edition
  • American Law of Zoning, 5th edition
  • Land Use & Community Development, 8th edition, and
  • Land Use in a Nutshell

Ms. Salkin is also an editor of the Zoning and Planning Law Report, New York Zoning Law and Practice Report, and The Urban Lawyer.  

In addition to her academic work, Ms. Salkin served on the EPA’s National Environmental Justice Advisory Council, the Board of Directors of the New York Planning Federation, and the American Planning Association’s Amicus Curiae Committee, and has been active in land use reform efforts in New York. 

She has also served as a consultant on zoning law reform and watershed planning issues for local governments and state agencies throughout New York, including the Governor’s Office of Regulatory Reform, and national organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Planners and the National Academy for Public Administration.

The presentation will also feature David S. Thaler, P.E., L.S., DFE, D.WRE, FRGS, F. ASCE, F. NSPE, an award-winning civil engineer, and Managing Principal of D.S. Thaler & Assoc., LLC, Maryland appellate and circuit court judges, state and local government officials and staff, zoning hearing examiners, planning board members, legal practitioners, prominent members of the development community, architects, engineers, and planners discussing these topics:
