Maryland Rule 6-171(b) is being changed effective January 1, 2020, and provides that the registers shall enter an order or judgment by entering same on the docket of the electronic case management system used by the registers. Effective January 1, 2020, the date of the docket entry on the electronic case management system will be the date of the order or judgment. This rule tracks the rule applicable to the circuit courts and will bring consistency and uniformity amongst the courts.

Similarly, Maryland Rule 6-417(d)(2) and (f) are being changed effective January 1, 2020. These changes provide that the time for filing exceptions to an order approving an account runs from the date the order is docketed by the register and not the date the order is signed by the court.

Effective January 1, 2020, practitioners should amend the language of their notice to interested persons to conform with these changes. Practitioners should also review the language of their proposed orders approving administration accounts for any appropriate change.
