Members of the Maryland Bar Foundation (MBF) were on hand to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Baltimore County Public Library’s new Mobile Library Law Center (MLLC), which will operate because of donations from the MBF, Maryland Legal Services Corporation, and others. The MLLC will travel to underserved areas on the east and west sides of Baltimore County and serve as a mobile legal office with attorneys offering free civil legal advice to community members in need.

Alice Chong, President of the MBF, attended the ceremony along with MBF Vice-President Marla Zide. “I was really glad that Marla and I were able to show the Foundation’s support for the project.  They did a great job in highlighting and promoting their project,” Chong said in an email after the event.

Through the MLLC initiative, lawyers from Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) will provide free civil legal advice for those who are financially eligible in areas including bankruptcy, custody and child support, government benefits, landlord/tenant, and more. The vehicle will travel to the Woodlawn area on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visiting facilities such as the Islamic Center of Baltimore County; and the Essex area on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visiting facilities such as the Essex Senior Center. On board will be an attorney from Maryland Legal Aid and a librarian to help with general resources.
