The Maryland Judiciary has released a report recommending that Maryland adopt a minimum continuing legal education (MCLE) requirement for Maryland barred attorneys. MSBA’s Board of Governors reviewed the report and decided to monitor developments related to the report, provide members with relevant updates, and gather member feedback. The MSBA will use the feedback to prepare comments on the association’s behalf for submission to the Maryland Judiciary by November 10, 2023.

We welcome members to submit written comments to the MSBA via our Feedback Portal by Friday, October 13, 2023. The comments will be shared with members of MSBA’s MCLE Report Response Task Force and MSBA leadership.

Listening Sessions and Member Comments

The MSBA will hold three Listening Sessions from October 11 – 13, 2023, to hear from individuals and organizations on specific issues related to MCLE. To access any of the MSBA Listening Sessions, please register through our website to receive the virtual meeting link (Zoom) prior to the meeting. The Listening Sessions will be recorded.

If you would like to provide brief oral comments during one of the Listening Sessions, you must register online at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled session indicating that you would like to provide comments. Comments will be limited to two minutes per person and only those individuals who have pre-registered online and provided the topics and issues they wish to address in writing ahead of time via our online Feedback Portal, will be permitted to provide comments. We are looking for substantive MCLE comments, issues, and concerns related to your personal experience rather than simply noting whether you are in favor or against MCLE in Maryland.

The MSBA will moderate the sessions and requests that all participants follow standard MSBA meeting etiquette. The MSBA will remove any participant(s) from the virtual meetings if they do not follow proper protocol. The MSBA will accommodate as many participants as possible during the Listening Sessions. However, if we are unable to hear your oral comments due to time constraints, please submit written information via our feedback portal.
