MSBA is excited to announce Michael Stephen Steele, former Maryland Lt. Governor, attorney, media personality, and analyst for MSNBC, as a Keynote Speaker at the MSBA Legal Summit 2023 on June 7-9, 2023, in Ocean City, Maryland. 

A Maryland native, Mr. Steele was born at Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George’s County, Maryland and raised in Washington, DC and he is perhaps best known for his time serving as the chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Mr. Steel held that position from 2009 to 2011 and, at the time, Mr. Steele made history as the first African American to hold the position of RNC chair. Before leading the RNC, Mr. Steele was also the first African American elected to statewide office in the state of Maryland and served as the lieutenant governor of Maryland from 2003 to 2007.

In addition to his political career, Mr. Steele has worked as a lawyer and as a political commentator on various news networks and he continues to be a prominent voice in the political and media worlds. To date, Mr. Steele has appeared on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, and The Daily Show, and his writings on law, business, and politics have appeared in national publications including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, and Politico. He has served as co-host of the SiriusXM radio show “Steele & Ungar,” and his contributions to public discourse as a communicator and commentator have been showcased through his current role as a political analyst for MSNBC.
