STEVEN M. HEINL has been elected partner at Hyatt & Weber, P.A., a law firm headquartered in Maryland’s state capital, effective March 1, 2021. Heinl leads the firm’s estates and trusts practice and also focuses on land use and zoning law. His expertise in estates and trusts law includes preparing unique estate plans and he is often retained by fiduciaries to assist in the administration of trusts and estates. Heinl’s land use and zoning practice focuses on representing commercial and residential real estate owners throughout the various stages of the development process. He was named to Super Lawyers: Rising Stars list for Estates and Trusts for 2021. Heinl is the first associate attorney elected as partner at Hyatt & Weber in nearly a decade.

JESSICA AYD has joined Goodell DeVries as an associate in the firm’s medical malpractice group, where she focuses on the defense of health care providers and institutions. She has experience in all aspects of complex civil litigation in matters before state and federal courts and has served as first chair in several jury trials. Ayd was previously a civil litigation attorney at a private law firm and a law clerk for the Hon. Arlene Coppadge and the Hon. Robert Coonin of Family Court of the State of Delaware. Ayd was also a volunteer for the U.S. Peace Corps in the Republic of the Fiji Islands. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., 2011) and the University of Maryland, College Park (B.A., summa cum laude, 2006). Ayd was named to the Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” list for 2021, and she was selected as a Rising Star by Maryland Super Lawyers in 2019.

JOHN G. COSTELLO has joined Potter Burnett Law. Costello, who has over ten years of experience in litigating and managing cases, spent the last five years handling injury cases for both plaintiffs and defendants. Through that work, he cultivated a passion for representing injured individuals. Coupling that passion of fighting for victims, with extensive courtroom experience gained from being a Montgomery County prosecutor, Costello is the perfect addition to the team.

JESSICA MARKHAM, of The Markham Law Firm, has had her book, Representing Federal Employees and Their Spouses in Divorce: A Practical Guide, published by the American Bar Association. The book is an in-depth look at the many issues raised in a divorce involved when representing a federal employee (current, former, or retired) or spouse, and is an invaluable, single-source brings together a wealth of information and practice insights from disparate sources that Markham has gathered over two decades in practice. Markham is sought for her expertise in retirement matters, including drafting of retirement benefit court orders. She practices all aspects of family law in Maryland and Washington, DC, has trial experience in local jurisdictions and has an active mediation practice.
