As a service to our members, MSBA wants to ensure the integrity and security of member email and computer systems.

We have seen a number of emails purporting to be bar leaders, or key MSBA staff, requesting the recipient to take some action (sometimes seeking to initiate a financial transaction, other times more innocuous messaging seeking to establish a connection). In all instances, the email address the message comes from is clearly not a legitimate email address.Other Bars and associations have experienced similar attempts. These tend to be generated by BOTS scraping websites for contacts of officers or those deemed to be leaders within an organization who can authorize an action or the email, if acted upon, serves to infect the recipient’s computer.

We remind members to delete any email deemed suspicious, NOT click on any embedded links within such emails, and avoid responding to suspicious emails.
