The American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates has a unique role and is ultimately responsible for establishing the ABA’s policies for the administration of the association and its positions on professional and public issues. The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) is entitled to be represented by a total of seven delegates in the ABA House of Delegates.  MSBA Delegates are expected to attend each ABA House of Delegates meeting and participate in its proceedings. The ABA House of Delegates meets twice each year at the ABA Annual Meeting in July/August and at the ABA Mid-Year Meeting in February.  Delegates selected for the 2024-2026 term will attend their first ABA Meeting in February 2025.

After the ABA Annual Meeting on August 5, 2024, MSBA will have four (4) at-large Delegate vacancies.  The MSBA Board of Governors is responsible for electing the delegates at its annual retreat on May 3, 2024.  Traditionally, the President-Elect nominee is elected by the Board to serve in one (1) of the at-large positions.  The other three (3) at-large vacancies may be filled by any MSBA member in good standing.

Any member of the MSBA who wishes to be considered for the at-large position should submit their name, current CV, and a letter of interest addressed to Anna Sholl, Executive Director, Maryland State Bar Association.  All materials should be sent by email only to Theresa Michael (theresa@msba.org) by or before 5:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024.  MSBA members who express interest in the manner set forth above will be deemed nominated as candidates, and submitted to the Board of Governors.
