MSBA President Hon. Mark Scurti recently sat down with Robert Clark, host of the “Everyday Law” podcast, to discuss his MSBA presidency during COVID-19, the transition to virtual work, our upcoming Legal Summit, and beyond.
President Scurti discussed his road to President of the MSBA and what drove him to become, what Robert referred to, as “a Bar Association Junkie”. The Legal Summit took center stage in this podcast episode as President Scurti discussed the amazing keynote speakers featured at the Summit, including U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg, and the incredible value provided through our 80+ substantive programs. President Scurti also discussed the public interest initiatives and MSBA partners supported through your membership dues, including the Pro Bono Resource Center, which trains lawyers to take on Pro Bono legal services; MYLaw, which involves outreach to the next generation of lawyers in Maryland, helping to keep students out of the juvenile detention center and offering mock trial opportunities; and some of our success stories through these programs.
Additionally, President Scurti discussed what we learned from this past year, his concerns for Maryland’s youth and the intertwining of gun violence, the amazing work that Maryland’s Access to Justice Commission continues to perform, and his experience as an openly LGBTQ+ judge in Maryland.
